March 6 -
Last year, at Panthers instigation, a joint committee was formed with Penrith City Council, the NSW Dept. of Community Services and ENCOSS to distribute $10,000 of the club’s donations to local organisations.
The process was so successful that the State Government and ClubsNSW recommended that it be extended throughout NSW.
"This year our Board has allocated all of its Category 1 levy of around $450,000 to this process," chairman Barry Walsh
said.
"The Board was delighted to do this because the experience from last year showed that our money ends up where it does the most good.
"Another important factor was that the process was seen to be transparent and that all local community organisations had an equal
chance to tender for their share of funds."
Mr Walsh praised local Member and Minister for Community Services Faye Lo Po, who was involved in setting up the scheme.
"Ms Lo Po was quick to see the value in what had been proposed," he said.
